website project management: all levels

Like it or not, there's a perception that if your company doesn't have a website, it doesn't exist (or shouldn't be taken seriously).

The function of a website varies immensely - from validation of your company's existence to a full-blown, revenue-generating supersite. What doesn't vary is the need for good project management - as this outline demonstrates:

  1. Agree the site plan with everyone involved. It will save time and money during the build.
  2. Run activities in parallel to save time. Page templates can be designed at the same time as copy is being written at the same time as assets are being gathered (images, downloads, logos etc).
  3. Present the developer with the final site plan, page templates and all the content at the same time, and your bill will be reduced!
  4. Review the prototype and clearly document all the amendments required before the site is made live.

Of course, the actual process is more detailed but the principles are the same. The beauty (and downfall) of websites is that they can always be changed. Often, that's an excuse for not hitting deadlines and that's nonsense - so it doesn't happen that way here.

Creating a new website or revamping an existing one involves a number of resources; web designers, site developers (sometimes companies do both), developers with e-commerce capabilities, photographers/photo libraries, copywriters, site planners and project managers. No Nonsense can provide site planning, project management and copywriting skills in the combination you need, and recommend suitable providers in other areas - or work with people you already trust.

The same applies to blogs - with the addition of foward content planning. In fact, for small-to-medium specialist companies, a blog may be a better option than a website.
